Active Compounds in Milk Thistle

Milk thistle contains a group of compounds called silymarin, with silybin being the primary constituent, making up 50–70% of the total. Other key compounds include isosilybin, silychristin, and silydianin. Together, these components work synergistically within the body, contributing to the traditional uses that have made milk thistle highly regarded throughout history.

The Issue with Standard Milk Thistle Products

The body can struggle to absorb silybin and other milk thistle compounds when taken orally. This poor absorption occurs because many of these compounds don't dissolve well in water or digestive fluids, don't easily pass through the intestinal walls, and are largely broken down by the liver before they can be used. As a result, only a small fraction becomes available to your body.

How Our Formula Works

Our formula combines silybin with phospholipids—a type of natural fat found in your body—which greatly enhances its ability to dissolve and be absorbed. This process, called phospholipid complexation, helps silybin pass more easily through your digestive system and into your bloodstream, allowing your body to use it more effectively. Studies show that this combination can increase bioavailability in the liver up to 10-fold compared to standard silymarin.
In addition to enhanced silybin absorption, our formula includes a full-spectrum milk thistle extract, providing the complete range of silymarin compounds—including silybin A and B, and isosilybin A and B. This ensures you receive all the active compounds naturally found in milk thistle. With two capsules daily, you're getting the equivalent of 9,850mg of whole milk thistle herb—a potency that would be impossible to achieve with standard extracts alone.
Finally, we've added piperine (black pepper extract), which has been shown to increase absorption of milk thistle actives by up to 365%, significantly enhancing the formula's potential.
